AUDIOSPEED demo is out now!

The demo of AUDIOSPEED is out now on itch.io: audiogamestore.itch.io/audiospeed

AUDIOSPEED is a high-speed racing audiogame. You do not drive a car, you pilot a starship on orbital tracks, and the whole thing is built to be played with your ears: it can be finished from start to end without ever looking at the screen. If you remember Wipeout, you already know the feeling we were chasing.

How it plays

Your ship never turns: it always stays parallel to the track axis and slides sideways. That is a deliberate accessibility choice — without sight, a strafing model is far easier to read than a yaw angle. The difficulty comes from centrifugal force: the faster you go into a bend, the harder the track pushes you towards the outer wall, and past a certain speed hitting it becomes unavoidable. You have to slow down, and the robo-navigator on board tells you when.

Everything you need is in the audio: the corner calls, the countdown into the bend, the proximity beeps of the ship next to you, the hazards, the damage to your shield and hull, your position on the lap.

Seven tracks, one tournament

The main tournament runs across 7 tracks and ends at Hydra, the one where all the hairpins are and where only the toughest pilots get through. You can practise on the first five, or go straight into the tournament — but there you have to hit specific qualifying times or you are out.

Each starship has its own stats: speed, manoeuvrability, armour, acceleration and robo-navigator efficiency. Pick the wrong hull for the wrong track and you will feel it.

Accessibility

This is the part we care about most.

  • Fully playable by blind players — the 3D graphics are illustrative only
  • Full voice over in 11 languages: English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Russian and Hindi — interface and subtitles in all of them
  • Everything the game says is also written on screen as a subtitle, in the menus and during the race
  • Every menu entry is spoken: no screen reader needed
  • Adjustable text size and a high contrast mode
  • Keyboard only, and full controller support
  • Separate volume controls, stereo positioning for orientation

Headphones are strongly recommended: the position of the track, of the other ships and of the hazards is read entirely through stereo panning.

And on Steam?
